What's it like being a house cat?
I have often wondered what it would be like to be a cat, and if they could speak for just one day, this is one of the questions I would have to ask. It seems they have the perfect life, at least the ones in my house do. Food and water is always provided, at no cost to them. Blinds are raised 8-10 inches so they can soak up the sun. They have their own room at their disposal with a litter box, actually two, a couch and a windowsill. They play when they want to, get attention when they want to and sleep when they want to. All at their whims. The life of a house cat is one of wonder and splendor to me.
Can cats have feelings for other cats?
This is another question I have pondered on. Sometimes it seems that my cats just coexsist and then I catch them all snuggled up together, like the picture above. So I'm confused. Is it a mixture of the two? Can they both love and not really care for another cat at the same time? And what about outside cats? How come you can hear them hissing and fussing one minute and then catch them sitting together the next. One of life's great mysteries. And if I could, I would ask my cats for further clarification.
How can you fall asleep at the drop of a hat and what, exactly, constitutes a "cat nap"?
Not only can they fall asleep at the drop of a hat, it appears, from the picture above, that it does not matter where they nod off. I've often caught my cats looking like they were ready to head to lala land and suddenly their up awake and eating, so what is a cat nap? Is it your way of spying on everything around you? Your way to always have the upper hand? I wish is was as easy as that for me to fall asleep, could you imagine me walking through the living room, laying down on the floor and taking a snooze? It would be ludicrous, but not for a cat. Oh, what a hard life they lead.
Why can't you just hold still and let me get a picture of you?
I think cats have a natural hatered for cameras in general. The olny time I can get a decent picture of any of my cats is when they are sleeping. Their constant motion makes it next to impossible to get a good close up. Is it because the flash is extra sensitive on their eyes or because they want to make it harder for me? Could it be that cats are really sadistic creatures that are just really good at hiding it?
Why do you decide to purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr?
Purring is one of my favorite things about cats. I love the sound and feel of a cat purring. To me it seems that they are content, happy, and feeling loved. But is that really the case? I know it is due to a special set of vocal cords and would be something like us, as humans, humming when we are happy. But here's the problem. We cannot hum while we are sleeping, whereas, cats can pur anytime they want, even after they are fast asleep. I also know that cats pur when they are upset or in pain, so you've got to pay attention to them if they're getting on in year of have an ailment as purring can also be a signal of distress. So, why do you pur?
How come you pretend to hate the dogs when it's apparent you do not?
If a picture could say a thousand words this one would speak volumes. But I wonder why the constant hissing? These two have lived together since I brought Snoop home 8 years ago. But still there is the occassional hiss here and there. Never any paws flying, just a hiss. What's that all about?
Must you scatter litter EVERYWHERE?
I don't know about your cats, but my cats can sling litter from here to Kalamzoo with little effort. So I often wonder why? Is it a conspiracy against me, their human? Litter never stays within the confined areas of the "litter box". They have a whole room to themselves, and believe me, they use every inch of to throw litter around. And heaven forbid you leave anything in there, because it is going to wind up in the box, magazines, t-shirts, you name it, they can get it in there, even if it takes moving it from one room to the next (t-shirts for instance). They are very sneaky in their endeavors to move articles of my clothing, never my husbands, into "their" room. What's up with that?
What secrets can you tell me?
I know you've seen a lot. I know you know a lot. So, if you could talk, would you tell me all your secrets or would you be just like a cat and tell me nothing? Obviously, you have the whole "good life" thing figured out, would you tell me how I could achieve it? Somehow I doubt it. You'd probably want to keep it to yourself or make me figure it out on my own. What other things could you tell us? Could you tell us if people we knew have rifled through our things while we were away and they were "baby-sitting"? Could you tell us which dog keeps dragging things out of the trash can and which dog then proceeds to shed said trash into a thousand pieces? Would you tell me if you could? Probably not.

very nice hub..
Misty, I love cats and am also fascinated by their behavior and wonder what they are thinking. I have two of them, which you can see on my blog if you want: buffalodreamcatcher.blogspot.com
Your love of your cats really comes through in your writing. Keep it up!
Sandy
Awwww, they are so cute!
Thanks for this hub, very entertaining to me, a fellow cat lover!
I can't answer ALL of your questions, but....
Our cats definitely have feelings for each other. The two "lifetime inside" kitties have a relationship that is as complex as that of most married humans, and the jealousy between the "little girl" (Kitten Precious) and our came-to-us former stray (Green Eyes)--over studly Moe Key Man, our overweight orange and white Garfield type--is palpable.
As for being able to cat nap, I'm a human who can instantly drop sound asleep on the floor and has done so more than once in the past. Can't everyone?
Dear Ms.M my cat won't stop clawing up the furniture. HELP!!!! What do i do?
I'm not a cat person but enjoyed reading your hub! Although I said I'm not a cat person, it makes me smile reading the posts :)
Delightful hub. A joy to read. I can't answer any of your cat questions though. I've often wondered myself what goes through the minds of my cats. They're such mysterious creatures, it's impossible to fathom them out, but that's what is so fascinating about them.

Wonderful hub, but then I'm a cat person. I so identify with the blind issue... my Xena will seek me out with a meow that sounds like meoma if there is something not to her liking or she thinks its time for her afternoon outside time[she's an indoor cat]. As for the purring, experts say cats don't purr when they are happy... I call BS on that one. Xena also makes her tail flit around on purpose, especially for my husband who made a game of holding her tail when she was a kitten.
